The head of the Tribunal is the President, Ms Jessica Burns, who was appointed by Scottish Ministers in October 2005. Together with 8 Link opens in new windowConveners and 22 Members they form the Additional Support Needs Tribunals for Scotland.

The Tribunal administration is called the Secretariat and exists to support the work of the Additional Support Needs Tribunals for Scotland.  As well as supporting the hearing itself, the Secretariat is the point of Link opens in new windowcontact for parents, education authorities and anyone with an interest in the Tribunal.

The Secretariat presently comprises of four staff. It is headed by the Secretary, Sally Burns, who has overall management responsibility for the efficient discharge of the statutory duties of the Tribunals. The Secretary is responsible for all administrative matters relating to references to the Tribunals and the case officers involved in the hearings.

The Office Manager is Benet Brodie who is responsible for resources, training and information and publications requests. The Office Manager is also responsible for the administration and management of the Tribunal website.

A Tribunal comprises of one convener and two members. Each Tribunal is supported by a case officer who will deal with all inquires in relation to the hearing and the progress of the case. We aim to assign the same case officer throughout the life of the reference.

The Secretariat is responsible for copying the necessary papers for cases, arranging hearings and dealing with correspondence and questions from parents and other agencies involved in the reference.
