The Secretariat presently comprises of four staff. It is headed by the Operations Manager, Sara James, who has overall management responsibility for the efficient discharge of the statutory duties of the Tribunals.

The Secretary is Benet Brodie who is responsible for all administrative matters relating to references to the Tribunals and the case officers involved in the hearings. The Secretary is also responsible for the administration and management of the Tribunal website.

A Tribunal comprises of one convener and two members. However, Scottish Ministers have made rules to allow a convener to sit alone to consider certain references. We aim to assign the same case officer throughout the life of the reference.

The Secretariat is responsible for copying the necessary papers for cases, arranging hearings and dealing with correspondence and questions from parents and other agencies involved in the reference.
