**UPDATE ON TUG EVENT 2008 - 10TH NOVEMBER 2008**

Please note that the date of the next Tribunal User Group event has been changed. The event will now be taking place on Monday 10th November 2008 in Perth Concert Hall instead of Monday 03rd November as previously announced. Registration will be at 10am with the event starting at 10;30am. More details will follow in due course.

THIRD ANNUAL REPORT OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE ADDITIONAL SUPPORT NEEDS TRIBUNALS FOR SCOTLAND 2007/2008 IS NOW AVAILABLE TO DOWNLOAD

The Education (Additional Support for Learning) (Scotland) Act 2004 places a duty on the President to prepare a report, to be submitted to the Scottish Ministers, each year on the work of the Tribunals during the preceding year from 1 April to 31 March. The President has now submitted her report for 2007/2008 to the Scottish Ministers.

This report covers the second full operational year for the Tribunals and it will be of interest to all Tribunal users and those involved with children and young people with additional support needs.

CONSULTATION ON THE EDUCATION (ADDITIONAL SUPPORT FOR LEARNING) (SCOTLAND) ACT 2004.

The consultation on amendments to the Education (Additional Support for Learning) (Scotland) Act 2004 is currently underway and includes consideration:

  • of the rights of young people and parents of children with additional support needs to make out of area placing requests;
  • following a successful out of area placing request, parental and young people's access to mediation and dispute resolution from the host authority; and
  • increased parental and young people's rights in respect of access to the Additional Support Needs Tribunals for Scotland (ASNTS) regarding failures by the education authority.
